If the way I feel is wrong, I don’t want to be right.

I have a few more hours before I have to wake up and go to work. This week is the first full week of new art classes that I’m teaching after school.

NYC weekend

Short trip.

p1000760.jpg

The bridges were beautiful, and the view was bright. I got sick before leaving so I had a stack of puffs and a bag full of medicine. I hate staying in bed , a road trip was just what I needed. p1000755.jpgp1000775.jpg

At Robb’s house in Brooklyn after a sweet night on the futon.

There was a lot of walking and many more stops not photographed. By the time we were ready to go back we were completely tired.

Favorite thing in Southie

Oh yeah and that’s Donald and Greta  Garbo. I have a feeling this was an old theater, with the facade now torn off.

Short Silk Screen Mission

For the past week  have been interviewing for a new job, three times ( same job). This morning I found out I have the pleasure of filing out the paperwork that goes along with application. Even if it doesn’t sound as if I am, I am very happy about it all, but slightly on edge.

Last night I stretched some screens with orange mesh 109 inch count. It gives a lot of detail to anything being exposed. I also found some extender base, and ink. Matt screened Sunday night, and wanted to sharpen up the lines of the prints.  I didn’t expect to stay long, it was a short session of exposing and pulling a few tests.

The base flat print became somewhat soppy. I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. The lines came out well. I am used to a different type of extender base, and I think this may have been the problem.  The base I’m used to working with has the same consistency as the inks, and only affects drying time and opacity. The one we used last night I think affected the consistency only. The screens were perfect, even if the ink suffered a little, it’s an easy fix.

That song that everyone mumbles

Should old acquaintances be forgotten,
And never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintances be forgotten,
And days of long ago !

Chorus:
For old long ago, my dear
For old long ago,
We will take a cup of kindness yet
For old long ago.

We two have run about the hillsides
And pulled the daisies fine,
But we have wandered many a weary foot
For old long ago.

We two have paddled (waded) in the stream
From noon until dinner time,
But seas between us broad have roared
Since old long ago.

And there is a hand, my trusty friend,
And give us a hand of yours,
And we will take a goodwill draught (of ale)
For old long ago!

And surely you will pay for your pint,
And surely I will pay for mine!
And we will take a cup of kindness yet
For old long ago!

It has snowed during the night and there is enough mist in the air to cover the prudential building. It’s the last day of the year. It’s very easy to want to treat New year as just another day, it is the middle of winter, the days are still short, and from one day to the next the landscape will look the same. Almost every commercial advises the benefits of a new diet, quitting smoking, and miracle pills to aide with the new diet. It’s hard not to feel even the advertising pressure of a new year. It’s a cross between needing to atone for what went wrong, what didn’t work, what can be washed clean and remade in the new year. It’s handfuls of things to be improved on, and usually they cannot be changed overnight. It’s an illogical pressure and well worth ignoring. Resolutions should not be made for one night, they should just be done. There is no beginning and expiration date for this. But does it make sense to have an entire holiday devoted self-improvement that lasts for a day.
I don’t know why the idea of reconciling is floating in my mind. I don’t know if I heard it in some context, probably, but I just don’t remember.  I finally found the song that everyone seems to mumble sing after the clocks have been zeroed. It’s like being given the definition and being asked for the single word to encompass it.  Remembrance and reconnecting all fall under to reconcile. 1 a: to restore to friendship or harmony.  It has a curious synonym, to adapt. So reconcile and adapt with the ones you love, remember the people that have gone, and reach out to the ones that still haunt the mind.

Did I just make a resolution? Nah.
